About Curriculum

A Beka Book curriculum is a thoroughly Christian, traditional program that emphasizes biblical character building through their rigorous preK-Grade 12 textbooks.

The academic integrity of A Beka Book has been validated by the success of hundreds of thousands of students over decades. Historically, students instructed under the curriculum consistently score above national averages on standardized tests and on college entrance tests. Our skilled researchers and writers do not paraphrase progressive education textbooks; they do primary research in every subject and look at the subject from the traditional Christian point of view.

While it is healthy to be informed by educational trends and performance data, it is not the practice of A Beka Book to adjust or change its curriculum to align with each new reform that is presented in academia. A Beka will continue their commitment to seek content and best practices that provide students with the tools they need for both academic and personal success.

A Beka Book has collaborated with teachers and administrators for four decades, working year after year to improve the curriculum and lesson plans that help our teachers teach everyone from preschoolers to 12th graders. The result is a curriculum that is as practical and comprehensive for first-year teachers as it is for seasoned veterans who use it year after year. The curriculum has structure when you need it, as well as the freedom to bring teachers expression of creativity to the classroom. A Beka textbooks and support materials empower our teachers, no matter their level of experience, to focus on their students, with extra challenges for those who learn quickly and special helps for those who struggle.

A Beka Book is committed to providing the finest educational resources for Christian schools and homeschool families.

Purpose of Education

“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting, get understanding.”  Proverbs 4:7

Wisdom is the ultimate end of all learning. In order to get wisdom we must go through a process which involves: knowledge (an exposure to facts and information); understanding (coming to a realization of what they mean to us); and finally wisdom (being able to take what we know, understand it and apply it to our life).

It is our purpose at High Desert Christian Academy to bring to each student wisdom. Wisdom must begin with the knowledge of God because the Bible tells us in Proverbs 1:7 that “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” Therefore, our first responsibility is to help each child come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. That is the cornerstone upon which the rest of their education will be based.

Our program, laid upon this cornerstone, has four sides. Our curriculum and instructions are:

  • Christ-Centered: because in God all things have their beginning and in Him they have their true meaning.
  • Bible-Based: because the Bible is our guide for leading us in a life that will be joyful and productive.
  • Student-Related: because we value each student and treat him/her as if he/she were our own. Each student is encouraged to achieve his/her full potential academically, physically, socially and spiritually.
  • Life-Centered: because we are helping to train children for a lifetime. We see that our responsibility goes beyond just the time they are with us, but on to eternity. We are here not only to give them an education through academics, but also an education in righteous living that will bless them for eternity.
